How the Business Club Luxembourg in Germany Facilitates Successful Bi-Lateral Business
You may be surprised to know that more and more German companies are looking to form business partnerships with Luxembourgish companies and set up operations in Luxembourg. And the reverse is true as well, with a growing number of Luxembourgish companies looking for new business opportunities in Germany.
There’s a good reason for this recent upturn in bilateral business activity…it’s a direct result of the activities of the Business Club Luxembourg in Germany.
In 2012, the Luxembourg Ambassador of Germany and Director General of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce wanted to create an initiative that would give Luxembourg better economical representation in Germany. In their vision, companies from each country would come together to develop mutual business opportunities within an organisation that would facilitate networking and problem solving. Business people would share experiences, express their needs and make connections.
Soon, a core-group of 16 companies agreed to participate, marking the beginning of the Business Club Luxembourg in Germany. In 4 short years, the Club has already made a major impact, through its online contact and marketing platform plus the 4-5 yearly events it holds, where participants share knowledge and form new business relationships.
The Club is growing steadily, thanks to its focus on developing a very high quality network of member companies. In addition, it has established close relationships with key German business organisations, such as the Federation of German Industry (BDI), Federation of Foreign Economic Development (BWA), and Foreign Chamber of Commerce (AHK). On the Luxembourg side, the Club has the active support of the Ministries of Economy and Finance along with the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Luxembourg-German Business Initiative (DLWI).
Club members from Germany report that they now have first class access to key government officials and business leaders in Luxembourg. They’re able to quickly get licenses and permits, set up facilities, find the right partners and enter the marketplace. They say it’s simply faster and easier for them to do business in Luxembourg. Many also use their Luxembourg facilities to participate in foreign economic missions since, as part of a Luxembourg delegation, they have better visibility and access to potential customers.
POST Luxembourg, parent of TERALINK Solutions, has been active in the Club for several years. It has participated in many Club events, most recently in a forum on the Internet of Things in Berlin. Just this month, a large delegation of German Club members visited Luxembourg, where they were welcomed by POST Luxembourg. Here, my colleagues at TERALINK Solutions and I met with them to describe Luxembourg’s world-class ICT infrastructure and our deep ICT and media expertise.
In talking with some of our visitors afterward, I learned that POST fills a niche in Germany that is not yet occupied. It has the experience, quality of infrastructure and expertise of the large incumbent German telecom company, but is in fact smaller and more flexible. Able to provide technologically advanced, innovative solutions that can be quickly customised, POST is well suited to provide telecom and ICT services to small and medium-sized German companies.
